HearChat: Accessible and Enhanced ChatGPT
HearChat is a Chrome extension aimed at enhancing the accessibility and user experience of ChatGPT for screen reader users. It incorporates several features to improve usability, such as Automatic Headings that facilitate navigation, customizable Start/Stop Notifications for response generation indicators, and Interface Labeling for better button understanding. Additionally, an Options Page allows users to tailor the extension's behavior to their preferences.
Planned features include the ability to have ChatGPT responses read aloud, a more user-friendly Options Page, and an expanded selection of sound effects with the option to upload custom sounds. The extension is easily installed by clicking the install button, and the options page can be accessed conveniently through a button on the active chat page. HearChat was primarily tested with Mac OS VoiceOver, ensuring compatibility with various popular screen readers.
